Pride is still a few months away, but New York City is making sure to get a headstart as it reveals its official theme for 2020.

The tweet revealing the theme, “The Future Is…”, includes a video featuring voice from the LGBTQ community such as drag queen Dylan Thomas, gender nonconforming designer Stephon Mendoza, trans activist Ceyenne Doroshow, and Latinx body-positive model Ady del Valle. According to New York City Pride, the theme was chosen because it encompasses “identity, ethnicity, age, body types, language, and religious beliefs.”  They also said it “connects our storied past, milestones, and promising future.”

Last year, Pride celebrations in New York were grander than usual as the city hosted World Pride2019, the commemoration of the 50th year of the Stonewall Uprising, and its own NYC Pride. Participating in the festivities were celebrities like Madonna, Grace Jones, Pablo Vittar, Teyana Taylor, Amara La Negra, and DJ Johnny Dynell. Cyndi Lauper, Billy Porter, and Chaka Khan also performed. Panels were also held last year, with speakers like Raquel Willis, Janet Mock, Tracey “Africa” Norman, George Takei, Trace Lysette, and Leyna Bloom.

Talking to Gay Times, campaign leader Eboni Munn said they wanted to build on last year’s “monumental” success and continue providing the community a voice.

“The success of last year’s campaign was monumental. This year’s visual identity builds off of that success by continuing to lift and elevate voices and images from the LGBTQIA+ community by the community,” Munn said. “The campaign should always be reflective of our community and the team that leads the campaign should also be reflective of LGBTQIA+ voices.”

The stories of the people and influencers featured in the video will be revealed throughout the year. This year, New York City Pride will be held from June 14 to June 28.
