American actor, producer, and model DJ Qualls, 41, came out as gay following his recent appearance on Comedy Central’s The Jim Jeffries Show. Qualls confirmed the news through his verified Twitter account by saying, “It is 11:20pm. I just came out on stage at a @jimjefferiesshow in San Diego. Yep, I’m gay. Been gay this whole time.” He added, “Tired of worrying about what people would think of me. Tired of worrying about what it would do to my career.”

His coming out was met with congratulatory messages and mostly encouraging response on Twitter. Take a look at some of the fans’ reactions below:

Qualls is best known for his films Road Trip (2000), The New Guy (2002), and Cherry Falls (2000). He also landed a role in various hit TV series such as Supernatural, CSI, Lost, and The Big Bang Theory to name a few. Further, he made an appearance in several music videos like Simple Plan’s “I’m Just a Kid,” Britney Spears feat. Pharrell’s “Boys (co-ed remix),” and Eel’s “Mr. E’s Beautiful Blues.” Prior to acting, he was a model for Prada and Calvin Klein and a volunteer counselor at Camp Horizon.

A cancer survivor, Qualls is an advocate for cancer research. He was diagnosed with Stage 3 (near Stage 4) Hodgkin’s lymphoma at age 14 (according to Mayo clinic, Lymphoma is a cancer of the lymphatic system, which is part of the body’s germ-fighting network.).
