My Login Info

Q: I forgot my login info. Can you tell me what it is?
A: On the home page click on Forgot Your Login Info, enter your email address and we'll send you your username and password.

Q: I can't Login! What's wrong?
A: Your browser must allow COOKIES. If you've tried everything and you still can't login it almost certainly means that your browser cookies are disabled or not set correctly. If you don't know how to reset them try another browser or try downloading a new version of your browser. Also try a browser other than AOL. Make sure to read all the info that comes with the welcome email and forgot login email.

Q: How do I change my password?
A: Login and go to your MY ACCOUNT page and click CHANGE PASSWORD and follow the easy steps!

Q: Can I change my username?
A: Your username cannot be changed but you can delete your account by clicking Delete Account at the bottom of your MY ACCOUNT page. You will then be able to re-register with your new username. Note that deleted accounts are unrecoverable.

Q: Can I change my account email address?
A: To change your account email address go to your MY ACCOUNT page and click EDIT PROFILE, make the change and click UPDATE at the bottom.

My Profile

Q: How do I create a profile?
A: Click JOIN FREE!. Creating and posting a profile is free and takes only a few minutes to go through the easy steps. Think of it as a quick sketch of who you are, your lifestyle, and what counts most for you and guys looking for you. Our questionnaire will help you highlight your personality traits and interests and lets you describe your personality even further in a brief narrative. Please read the 'Site Rules & Policies' below for more about what's allowed in profiles. Also read the KEY RULES posted as you create it.

Q: How long will it take for my profile to be approved?
A: The activation of your profile and pics is normally done within a day. There may be some unexpected delays sometimes. Please be patient. Please do not email our support team only to ask when they will be activated. Our team must read each profile to maintain the quality and integrity of Adam4Adam.

Q: How do I update my profile?
A: To update your profile go to your MY ACCOUNT page and click EDIT PROFILE, make your changes and click UPDATE at the bottom. Also please make sure to read the KEY RULES posted in the EDIT PROFILE page.

Q: Can I change my HOME LOCATION (CITY & NEIGHBORHOOD)?
A: To change your HOME LOCATION go to your MY ACCOUNT page and click EDIT PROFILE, then click EDIT HOME LOCATION, then Click to select a neighborhood or area within your city. You must select from the deepest possible list presented to you in order to be able to continue. Your final choice should be an area in green text. Once you've made your final choice click the CONTINUE button at the top.
Note that to appear in the ONLINE NOW list of another city you must change your HOME LOCATION.

Q:How can I post my travel plans in the VISTOR page?
A: To appear in the VISITOR page of a city go to your MY ACCOUNT page and click PLAN A TRIP then setup your travel plans but this will not change your HOME CITY. Your trip can be canceled in this same page. To update your trip delete the old one and post a new trip.

Q: How do I delete my profile & account?
A: You can delete your account by clicking Delete Account at the bottom of your MY ACCOUNT page. Note that deleted accounts are unrecoverable.

Q: How can I retrieve a deleted account, deleted pics or deleted messages?
A: Deleted accounts, emails, and pics are unrecoverable. Deleted accounts and all other information (i.e. profile info, pics, mail, friend's list, etc) are totally deleted from our system.

Q: How can I browse/view members in other cities?
A: To BROWSE/VIEW members of other cities click the CHANGE CITY button in the left menu. Click a city or area that you'd like to view. Note that this will NOT change your HOME LOCATION.

Q: How do i see which members i have a MATCH with??
A: Click the MY FRIENDS link in the top menu to open your list of friends. In the Thumbs Up column, GREEN means he has you in his list of friends too (a MATCH) and BLUE means he doesn't.

My PRO ad

Q: How do I create a PRO ad?
A: To create your PRO ad go to your MY ACCOUNT page and click Create/Edit PRO Ad, make your changes and click UPDATE at the bottom. Our PRO ad service is reserved for A4A Supporters so you will need to make a donation to activate it. Also please make sure to read the KEY RULES posted in the 'Create/Edit PRO Ad' page.

Q: How do I update my PRO ad?
A: To update your PRO ad go to your MY ACCOUNT page and click Create/Edit PRO Ad, make your changes and click UPDATE at the bottom. Also please make sure to read the KEY RULES posted in the 'Create/Edit PRO Ad' page.

Q: How do I cancel my PRO ad
A: To hide your PRO ad go to your MY ACCOUNT page, you can use the link toward the top of that page to switch to hide your PRO ad. To delete your PRO ad go to your MY ACCOUNT page, you can use the SWITCH link to switch to 'Regular' or you can click the delete PRO ad link in the 'Create/Edit PRO Ad' page.

My Photos

Q: How do I post new photos?
A: Go to your MY ACCOUNT page, click UPLOAD PHOTO, and follow the instructions. SOME TIPS: 1- If your pic is larger than 100 kb in file size we suggest you reduce it otherwise it may not upload. 2- Write your USERNAME or email address on your pics to protect them. Also please make sure to read the KEY RULES posted in the UPLOAD PHOTO page.

Q: How long will it take for my photo to appear?
A: The activation of your photos is normally done within a day. There may be some unexpected delays sometimes, please be patient. Please do not email our support team only to ask when they will be activated. Our team must approve each photo to maintain the quality and integrity of Adam4Adam. Also remember that text on top of photos is not allowed except for your name/username and date. Please read the 'Site Rules & Policies' below for more info.

Q: I'm having trouble posting photos. Any suggestions?
A: Resave it in JPG format and under 100kb in file size. If you've followed our Photo Guidelines and still have trouble posting them, email your photos to support@adam4adam.com
NOTE: SAVING pic in JPG format:
Open your pic in any image application such as PAINT, PHOTOSHOP, etc then from the FILE menu select SAVE AS and you will see the choices of possible formats, select JPG. JPG files under 100kb in file size should work fine in our system. Once it's saved upload it in your profile.

Q: How do I transfer my photos from my cell phone/PDA or digital camera to my account?
A: You should be able to transfer your pics by emailing the pic from your cell or PDA to your email account (yahoo, hotmail, etc) then once at a computer download the pic to your PC and then upload it in your account. You could transfer your images to your pc by using a data cable, Bluetooth dongle or memory card reader. Then upload it in your account.

Q: How does the private pic Lock/Unlock feature work?
A: Pics uploaded as PRIVATE are automatically locked for everyone except for you, you can see your own private pic. When contacting a member check the box next to Unlock my Private Pic for him if you wish him to see your private pic.

Also there is a Lock/Unlock Pic for Him green button in the profile pages; use it to lock or unlock your private pic for that member. It will stay unlocked for 2 weeks after the last time you unlocked it. Also in the UPLOAD PHOTO page you can use the Relock PRIVATE pic for ALL link if you wish to relock your pics for everyone (except for you).

Q: How can I lock my primary and secondary photos?
A: Your primary and secondary pics are public and cannot be locked. You can only lock/unlock your Private pic (3rd pic).

Donations

Q: How can I make donations?
A: Go to your MY ACCOUNT page, click MAKE A DONATION, and follow the instructions.
Also you must enter the CVV2 code.
CVV2 (also known as CVC2 or CID) is a three or four digit value that is uniquely derived for each credit card account. On the back of your credit card, it is a three digit value printed in italic characters on the signature panel following the last 4 digits of the account number.

All money received from donations is put towards the costs of running, further developing and improving Adam4Adam. Later on we plan on offering more 'extras' to A4A supporters, currently the only extra is the ability to have a PRO ad. Thank you all so much for your support, your donations really are a huge help.

Q: How do I cancel my RECURRING or REBILLING donation?
A: You can cancel your AUTO-RENEWAL or REBILLING payment any time. Go to MY ACCOUNT then click DONATION HISTORY then look on the far right side in the RECUR column and click "Cancel". This will stop future AUTO-RENEWAL charges.

BLOCK feature

Q: How can I BLOCK/UNBLOCK a member?
A: You may block a member by clicking BLOCK HIM in his profile page. To unblock a member click the UNBLOCK HIM button in his profile page.

Q: What does the function BLOCK do?
A: The BLOCK function only affects communication, which means the member you've blocked can still see you online but cannot send you messages.

Emailing

Q: How do I send emails and smiles to other members?
A: In the member profile page look for the 'Send Smile' link and to send an email type in your message in the SEND EMAIL box and click the 'Send Email' button. Emails can also be sent from the MAILBOX REPLY or COMPOSE page.

Q: Where do I read my emails I get from other members?
A: INTERNAL MAIL SETTING: With this method we send your emails to your Adam4Adam MAILBOX. Look for the MAILBOX link and buttons in the site.

EXTERNAL MAIL SETTING: We forward your emails to your registered email address. You will receive email anonymously to your registered email address, exactly like a regular email message. You can change your account email address in your MY ACCOUNT page then go to EDIT PROFILE.

You can change your mail settings here, select Internal or External mail.

Q: How do I reply to the emails I get from other members?
A: INTERNAL MAIL SETTING: You can reply via your Adam4Adam MAILBOX or use the member profile page SEND EMAIL box.

EXTERNAL MAIL SETTING: To reply to emails from other Adam4Adam members MAKE SURE NOT TO SIMPLY HIT REPLY! Click on the link in the email, which will take you to the member's profile page from where you can reply by typing in your message in the box and clicking on the 'Send Email' button.

Saving Correspondence: Email sent through Adam4Adam are kept in the MAILBOX SENT folder for a few days. Also in the MAILBOX you can save a limited number of email in the SAVED folder.

Q: How are the emails I send to other members anonymous?
A: We respect your privacy and will keep your actual email address absolutely confidential and never shared with anyone. You'll never see it or your real name displayed at Adam4Adam (unless you specify it yourself in the mail), and all written communication from other members will be directed to messages@adam4adam.com. With external mail setting our double-blind e-mail system will forward the messages to your registered email address.

ABUSE, SPAM, FAKES, ...

Q: What should I do if someone is harassing or abusive?
A: BLOCK the offending member immediately and forward harassing or abusive messages you've received through our system to support@adam4adam.com. The mail your forward (copy & paste) should show the message and TO, FROM DATE/TIME. Click BLOCK HIM in his profile page. Do not reply to him and do not post comments about him in your profile.

Q: What should I do if someone is using my photo in his profile?
A: First ask him to remove your pic. If that doesn't work contact us at support@adam4adam.com. Briefly describe the problem; include your username and account email address, along with the username of the offending member. For verification purposes you must include a similar pic of yourself while holding a paper with your email address written on it. If possible also include several other photos of yourself.

Q: How can I report SPAM, SCAM, BUSINESS SOLICITATION, AND ABUSIVE mails?
A: In the Adam4Adam mailbox Read Message page use the REPORT SPAM button to forward to us emails you suspect to be SPAM, SCAM, BUSINESS SOLICITATION, ABUSE, etc.

Or go to our Contact Us page, click Contact the Adam4Adam Support Team and select 'I have ANOTHER question or issue'. Use the contact form that comes up to describe the problem and include the offending email. Include the message and also the TO, FROM DATE/TIME. Make sure to block the member by clicking BLOCK HIM in his profile page. Do not reply to him and do not post comments about him in your profile.

Q: How can I report a fake member?
A: Go to our Contact Us page, click Contact the Adam4Adam Support Team and select 'I have ANOTHER question or issue'. Use the contact form that comes up to describe the problem and include the offending email. Please make sure to also include some proof, evidence, and detailed explanation to support your claim. Without the proof and information we won't be able to verify and take appropriate action.

Q: What should I do if someone got my password and took over my account?
A: If someone took over your account and you want it back we will need some proof that this was your account to begin with. Please write to support@adam4adam.com explain the details of your problems and attached one or both of these:
1- a pic of yourself similar to the one in the account but while holding a paper with your email address written on it.
2- the original welcome email we sent you when you joined.

It's your responsibly to secure your computer and email account to make sure this never happens. You should change your A4A account email address and password if you suspect they have been compromised. Please see the FAQs above about how to make these changes.

BUGS

Q: I cannot view ANY PICTURES of members, why?
A: This is a firewall or privacy issue usually. Try disabling your firewall then if that fixes the problem you'll know that you need to adjust your firewall settings. Also McAfee 'privacy setting', virus protection privacy settings, and other similar features that block ads could cause this, turn those off to see if it helps. Also check your browser privacy settings.

Q: I'm seeing weird or unusual browser behavior. What's wrong?
A: In Internet Explorer go to TOOLS then INTERNET OPTION then under PRIVACY try MEDIUM setting.

If the problem persists please try clearing your browser cache (if you're a AOL user click the Internet Explorer icon on your desktop in order to try this outside AOL):
1- LEAVE the Adam4Adam site completely, close all A4A windows (this is important)
2- in Internet Explorer go to TOOLS then INTERNET OPTION then under Temporary Internet files and click Delete Files and then delete all offline content. (this can be done similarly in other browsers)

If using AOL 9.0 version or higher, disable AOL Topspeed so the cache will not be stored. Also click CLEAR STORAGE. In AOL go to PREFERENCE then Internet Settings then uncheck Turn on Aol TOPSPEED to turn OFF Topspeed.

Or/and try reinstalling a fresh and updated copy of your browser:

Remove any added browser features such as Yahoo or Google tool bars, web accelerator extension, browser control bars, etc

Aso try Firefox (without web accelerator extension).

We reserve the right to suspend members who do not comply with our Site Rules and Policy.

Adam4Adam has one purpose: to help you meet other gay men. Profiles posted for any other intent than meeting men will be rejected. Offering services is not allowed except if your service is FREE. If your service is NOT FREE you must create a PRO ad and be in PRO mode while offering it. You can find out more about the PRO listing by going to MY ACCOUNT then click Create/Edit PRO Ad. It is forbidden to send unsolicited business mail or mail to solicit business. Profiles promoting businesses, events, parties, and/or other web sites will be rejected.

Profile text and messages you send to other members should not be threatening, insulting, abusive, racist, or harassing. Your photos, profile text, and messages you send to other members should reflect your desire to meet other members, no other purpose will be tolerated. It is forbidden to seek, sell, recruit, promote or to advertise any businesses, organizations, bars, clubs, product, event, website via your profile or email you send to members. It is forbidden to send unsolicited PROMOTIONAL mail.

Photo & Profile policy

Based on our commitment to providing an honest and enjoyable meeting environment, the following will NOT be accepted:

  • Profiles or photos that portray illegal activity, underage children, or explicit drug use.
  • Profile or photos that do not accurately and honestly describe and represent you. Photos that are not of YOUR face or YOUR body.
  • Profiles with web addresses, street addresses or telephone numbers, these are only allowed in the PRO ads text.
  • PRO profiles with links to sites other than your own personal professional service site.
  • Photos with web addresses, telephone numbers or any other text except for your name/username/email and date. We reserve the right to edit photos to remove or blur disallowed text.
  • Photos that are corrupted, too large, or that do not match the text description or not of your own face or own body. Photos that show less than 5 square inches of your body or face.
  • Photos that depict more than one person, unless the profile is for a couple and only if this is represented in your profile text clearly.
  • Profiles where either the photos and/or text indicate that the member's intention is not primarily to meet other members.
  • Emails or Profiles which advertise or are placed for the purpose of soliciting other members for a business, organization, event, club, or bar, product or service.
We do not accept profiles offering services that are not free except in the PRO listing. We reserve the right to delete members who attempt to amend their 'regular' profile to advertise services or who request money from other members for services. Sending emails for the purpose of soliciting business or for a an event, club, or bar, product or service is forbidden.

Miscellaneous

Refund Policy
Donations are 100% refundable. Banner ads advertisements can be refunded if Adam4Adam has mis-delivered a product or service in which case the unused portion or advertising period will be refunded.

Q: Why does the Adam4Adam site seem to be slow sometimes?
A: If you're having trouble with the speed of our site, it's usually one of three things: Adam4Adam may be experiencing technical difficulty. We know what it's like to be in a hurry to find love, but please try again later. The connection on your end may be the cause. Double-check your modem settings or connection speed to make sure you're connected at the highest possible Internet connection rate. The Internet itself may be experiencing a traffic jam. Try again at offpeak times.

Q: Why I'm I not getting emails from Adam4Adam or other Adam4Adam members?
A: Please read this if you are not receiving our emails in your AOL mailbox. This information may be useful even if your email service is not with AOL. Other email services may have similar problems and solutions.

The information to resolve this issue comes directly from AOL support and involves many factors. In order to answer this issue completely, this will address all these factors.

TO DETERMINE AND RESOLVE THE ISSUE, PLEASE FOLLOW THE STEPS BELOW:

A. AOL MAIL SYSTEM DIFFICULTIES
The AOL mail system may be busy or experiencing difficulties. Please be patient and try again later.

B. EDIT MAIL CONTROLS SETTINGS

NOTE: Please sign on with the Master Screen Name to check the Mail Controls (please see the note below about Screen Names).

1. Click MAIL on the AOL Toolbar and select MAIL CONTROLS.
2. Click GENERAL CONTROLS tab.
3. Select the Screen Name whose Mail Controls you wish to check and click the radio icon before "Customize Mail Controls for this Screen Name" then click NEXT.
4. Click the settings "Allow e-mail from all AOL Members, e-mail addresses, and domains." 
5. Click SUMMARY.
6. Click SAVE button. 
7. Click CLOSE button .

NOTE: ABOUT AOL SCREEN NAMES
The first Screen Name you chose when you first registered your AOL membership is your Primary Master Screen Name and cannot be deleted. There is only one Primary Master Screen Name for each account.

Master Screen Names can change Parental Controls for all other Screen Names on the account.

To obtain additional information about the Master Screen Name please use Keyword: NAMES

C. INTERNET E-MAIL
If the undelivered e-mail originates from an Internet address, and Mail Controls are set to allow Internet e-mail, there are several steps you can take.

  • Please contact the sender of the e-mail to verify they have
      the correct e-mail address (screenname@aol.com).

  • If the sender has the correct e-mail address, please ask
      them try to send the e-mail again.

    If this information does not help resolve your issue please contact AOL support and explain that you have tried everything and you are still not getting emails from the internet.
